The Gambia Re Visited 11th August 2006
What a time to travel!
I had already booked my flight unaware of a bomb plot at Heathrow Airport!
Fortunately I was flying from Gatwick " gateway" to the Gambia, as it is known to frequent flyers to West Africa. There was little disruption considering the long lines into the Departure Gates, and my flight left on time.
West Africa in August is, for the uninitiated, the rainy " low " season. I was able to book into the Cape Point hotel Bacau 3 star hotel b/b pool/restaurant/ one week including flight for £350.
50 Dalasis for £1 is the exchange rate.A good dinner with wine is on average 500 Dalasis (£10 )at most of the good restaurants.( La Valbonne is highly recommended )
When I was last in the Gambia in 2001 the exchange rate was 30 Dalasis £1.
this can only make a vacation in West Africa very appealing to all you spendaholics.
Playing Roulette or Blackjack at my old friend Franco Cianci`s Kololi casino can only be described as rehab for compulsive gamblers with such an exchange rate on offer £`s for Dalasis.
Franco has been the creative force behind Kololi for the past 16 years with his wife Valeria at his side until sadly she passed away last year.
His son Fabrizio is now MD and has asked for www.pokerevening.co.uk to consult for future Texas Hold-Em Tournaments at Casino Koloi.
The Gambia Experience is the main tour operator for the Gambia and I have been " scouting" for a suitable venue for Bridge Tournaments in Africa with Bridge Overseas.
I have recommended the Kairaba Five Star hotel with conference rooms large enough to hold 12 table competitions, to Bridge Overseas.
I can now confirm that www.pokerevening.co.uk will be running 4 Texas Hold Em Tournaments in 2007 for BOS. The first one will be at the Hotel Vila Galé Estoril Portugal 12th-16th March, the second at the Holiday Inn Telford/Ironbridge UK,the third at the Baltimore Harbour Hotel South West Ireland 2nd- 7th September.
The fourth one again at the Holiday Inn Telford 3rd-5th August.
